When I ran my first trail race, The Natural Bridge Caverns 10k, I found an advertisement for the Road ID line of products in my swag bag. After looking it up online, and reading various reviews, I discussed it with Mrs. MuddyJ and we decided it would be a good idea to purchase one for me, as I was training for longer and longer events, usually by my lonesome self.

Ask yourself any of the following questions:

  • Is $19.99 worth piece of mind while training?
  • Would you like first responders to know your name and be able to contact your family very quickly?
  • Do you have medical allergies?
  • Do you train on public roads?
  • Do you train for any type of athletic event in which you are put at some risk of injury?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, then YOU NEED a Road ID. It’s small, lightweight and unobtrusive, so it doesn’t bother you while you are training. The wristband is swappable, so I have a black band for out and about wearing, and a more visible yellow band for training runs and races. It also has 3m Scotchlite Reflective Stitching around the outside, making you a little more visible when running in twilight or darkness.

The ID tag portion itself is engraved stainless steel, and warrantied! There are no sharp edges on it, and it can be swapped quickly from band to band, so you have the option of wearing it on your ankle or shoe as well…When practicing parkour, I usually wear wrist braces, so I attach my Road ID to the strap of my Vibram KSO’s.

I also wear it during races. (kinda the point of it).

My RoadID on my VFF TrekSports

-see it there on my right wrist (covered in mud) Gladiator Rock’N Run

again, right wrist, covered in mud (Spartan Sprint)

-on my right wrist (Austin Jailbreak)

….quite obvious here, (Muddy Mayhem)

Again, right wrist, (Alamo 13.1 Fight to the Finish)

Can you figure out where it is yet? (Rebel Race 15k)

You have the option of two different models, one with your emergency contact info on the front, or one that has a PIN# linked to an online profile of your medical records! I chose the classic, with my emergency info available immediately as most often my events are in the woods, far from internet access!

Mrs MuddyJ and I were so impressed with the product, we purchased a pair as gifts for her parents, who,  though a little older, belong to several walking clubs and are very active.
